Overview of course objectives, syllabus, and bibliography. 

Assessment comprises two components:
•    Group Essay (50%): An essay on a private museum of contemporary art. The essay should not exceed 3,200 words (approximately 8 pages, excluding references and appendices). The assignment may be completed in groups of two or three students and it should be submitted as a PDF by email to luis.afonso@letras.ulisboa.pt by Friday, December 18, 2026. Harvard citation style should be used throughout.
•    Individual Test (50%): An individual test covering all topics included in the syllabus. The test will be held on Friday, January 8, 2027.

Class discussion about Scott Reyburn’s article, “From Poussin to Pokémon: Why Attitudes Towards Collecting Art Are Shifting,” published in The Art Newspaper (Sept. 2026). Discussion on the changing culture of art collecting, considering how the motivations, forms, and perceptions of collecting have developed from traditional fine-art collecting to contemporary forms of popular culture/social media collecting.
