"Towards a Better Understanding of Implicit Bias Beyond Unconsciousness and Dishonesty"
2 Março 2023, 14:30 • Rita Sousa
Presentation given by Adam Hahn, University of Bath
Dr. Adam Hahn will present research challenging the common belief that implicit measures reflect unconscious attitudes people are unable or unwilling to report. He will propose a model explaining the differences between implicit bias and explicit attitudes based on factors such as attention, affective forecasting, and methodological factors. These findings have theoretical implications for understanding automaticity and consciousness in social cognition and practical implications for designing effective interventions to address racial biases. The talk will address the drawbacks of oversimplified explanations of implicit bias in advancing social cognitive research and addressing societal issues.
