The regular Europe as a Global Actor class was replaced (substituted) by the conference on NATO's 73rd anniversary, which discussed the upcoming strategic concept. The event took place on 4 April (7pm) in the Auditorium JJ Laginha (Building I - Sedas Nunes). Organized in partnership with CPA-YATA and the Master's in International Studies (ESPP-Iscte), the event featured Ana Isabel Xavier (CEI-Iscte, OBSERVARE-UAL), director Luís Nuno Rodrigues (CEI-Iscte), Marcos Perestrello (CPA, National Assembly) and Raquel Vaz Pinto (IPRI-NOVA) as speakers; and Francisco Nobre (AJPA) as moderator.

The lecture gave an overview of
The evolution of EU as a global actor; its strategic culture and CSDP missions. We started by clarifying the terminology and outlining the most important actors and institutions involved in the decision-making and implementation of the EU's foreign policy. We then traced the evolution of EU's strategic culture through three policy documents: European Security Strategy (ESS), European Union Global Strategy (EUGS) and the EU Security Compass (SC). Next, we discussed the CSDP missions and operations, including their mandates and financing, and looked at which ones are currently taking place. Last but not least, we discussed the recently released EU Strategic Compass and debated the process of its drafting, publication, its importance and some specific provisions it contains.
