Explain the advantages on using a SDN-based STP solution in relation to the legacy Spanning Tree Protocolo (STP) used at the switches. Deploy at the SDN controller, a dynamic and energy-efficient STP solution with proactive flow rules, automatically updated after any topology change impacting the previous enabled ports by STP. Use of NetworkX for supporting a graph-based STP implementation. Next laboratory.

Study the secure and standalone switch modes. Test a multiple controller system in several scenarios: i) Master / Slave; ii) Equals. Using the scenario of all controllers in Equal mode, test and compare different orchestration policies in terms of their fairness in dealing with the workload of the control channel.

Switch functional modes (secure vs.standalone) to address communication failure with the SDN controller. Functional redundancy at the control level, using several SDN controllers. The diverse roles that can be assumed by a SDN controller: Master, Slave, Equal. Centralized vs. Distributed coordination among Equal controllers. Next laboratory.
