The seventh class of the module Europe as a Global Actor addressed the EU's neighbourhood. First, we considered the political, economic, and security importance of having good neighbourly relations, and looked at five categories of EU's neighbours. We then delved into the EU enlargement process, looking at the accession process in some detail, including the article 49 of TEU and the main steps of the accession process, including the roles played by member states and the main EU institutions, and the framework of accession negotiations consisting of chapters. We then looked at the EU Neighbourhood Policy and Eastern Partnership as well as policy instruments, such as Individual Action Plans and Association Agreements (including DCFTAs).
