We started this class with refreshing properties of determinants, adjoints, and inverse matrices, working out some examples from the previous week. We advanced with theoretical material froom Week 3, explaining the notion of basis vectors in more detail and the procedure for diagonalization of a matrix. The importance of diagonalization was highlighted in terms of a transformation method preserving the eigenvalues of the original matrix, but resulting in simpler and more efficient calculations. Similarity invariants were explained.
