- Introduction to Optimization of 2-variable functions: constrained extrema

Motivation: finding extreme values of 2-variable functions defined in closed and bounded subsets of R^2 with empty interior and complicated boundary analysis;
The Method of Lagrange Multipliers:

2-variable functions defined over a level curve g(x,y)=k: definition of 2-variable function subject to a constraint g(x,y)=k, objective/cost function and constraint/restriction function;
Characterization of the extreme values of a differentiable objective function subject to a constraint g(x,y)=k when g is differentiable and the gradient of g is non-zero: Lagrange multipliers and Lagrange systems;
Finding extreme values of a 2-variable function subject to a constraint: the Lagrange multipliers method;
